Our Holiday Card Drive has officially ended, and we are excited to announce that we gained over 1000 holiday card donations from the community to distribute to 11 local participating nursing homes! A huge thank you to the National Honor Society and Communiteens club at the American Heritage School Plantation for advertising the event to their student members. Special thanks to the Epuri family for donating 100 handmade letters and Ms. Villaruel and her students for shipping 250 letters to us from Key Biscayne. The widespread participation wouldn't have been possible without the support of local media like Fort Lauderdale News, GER PrEP BROWARD, and Fort Lauderdale Magazine.
Participating Nursing Homes: Five Star Premier Residences of Plantation, Artis Senior Living of Davie, Nspire Healthcare Miami Lakes, Nspire Healthcare Plantation, Pacifica Senior Living Sunrise, Pacifica Senior Living Forest Trace, Oakmonte Village, Victoria Villa, Memorial Manor, Glades West Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Westchester Assisted Living
We were joined this past weekend by the talented students at Music Brainworks as they put on a concert full of holiday cheer! Music Brainworks is a program that works with special needs children of all ages through musical cognitive therapy while also bringing awareness to disabilities like autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, dyslexia, Asperger's syndrome, and so much more. It was such a pleasure to have them put on a show of piano and vocal performances this season! You can watch the concert by clicking here!
Our two holiday shows were a success, and we were able to live stream them to over 15 participating nursing home facilities. Each show had around 20 performances ranging from duets to solo pieces to group numbers. With a special guest appearance by The Grinch, it was a concert full of laughs and smiles. You can re-watch either show on YouTube using the links below.

We took a visit to the Pacifica Senior Living assisted living facility in Sunrise, Florida to bring the holiday spirit straight to the residents. We first distributed personalized holiday letters we received in our Holiday Card Drive to each of the residents and read them their letters while they sipped on some some steaming hot cocoa beverages that we brought in. After that, we all sung and danced to holiday karaoke with a few residents even taking on a solo piece! From classics like "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" to upbeat tunes like "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", there was plenty of holiday fun to go around!
To accompany our holiday shows, Singing For Seniors is delivering personalized cards to our local elderly residents. We are asking the community to assist by donating handmade holiday cards since there are many residents in need of uplifting this season. Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc. themed cards, decorated with a warm message are welcome.
Physical cards can be dropped off at Rising Starz Performance Academy located at 2877 S. University Drive, Davie, FL 33328. Digital cards can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org and will be printed for you. Service hours are also available to students who participate.
CARD DEADLINE: December 10th at 7:00 PM
Please help us spread the word so we can have a bigger impact on those who need it most!
For the holiday season, we have decided to do something really special in order to fully bring the magic of the season remotely to our local nursing homes. We are entertaining over fifteen assisted living facilities with a virtual holiday concert, streaming live from Rising Starz Performance Academy in Davie, FL. In order to make sure everything is sanitary amidst the pandemic, we will be enforcing necessary precautions such as ensuring that the space is disinfected, mandating mask usage, and keeping all performers socially distanced.
The two show dates are December 12th and December 19th at 3:30 PM on both days, and the shows should be about an hour long. If you are interested in performing, please send in an audition video of you performing the entire holiday piece you want to participate with to our email email@example.com. In the audition email please indicate which show day you want to perform. Performance pieces can be any holiday musical entertainment including singing, playing an instrument, or dancing. We strongly recommend duets or group performances that you can do with a family member or friend who you can get together with! Auditions are due a week before each show date, but we do have limited spots for both days so the sooner you send in your audition piece, the better chance you have of getting confirmed to perform. Additionally, you can get six service hours for performing.
We hope to see you participate in helping us spread some holiday cheer this season with Singing For Seniors!
We chose to hold four beach themed sessions this month in order to celebrate the summer season! The residents surely felt the summer heat as they danced to performances with songs from The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Jimmy Buffett, and many more!
The Rising Starz Performance Academy decided to continue their annual summer theatre camp this year through remote rehearsals and practices, putting on a classic production of Grease: The Musical. Our organization was mentioned on the Early Night Show during the Grease cast's segment on the podcast. They joined us this past weekend by displaying their show for our participating nursing homes over the Zoom video chat platform. From iconic, upbeat pieces like "We Go Together'" to heartfelt ballads like "Hopelessly Devoted to You", our audience got to be immersed in a complete musical experience even under virtual circumstances. At the end of the show, the 12 performers had the opportunity to chat with the elderly and answer their questions about how they organized the show remotely. We truly got brought some "Grease Lightnin'" to these residents!
Throughout the day, we put on three virtual performances for the Oakmonte Village of Davie so residents at various times of the day would get the chance to engage in some Fourth of July spirit! The residents were dressed up in red, white, and blue as they waved their handheld American flags to our patriotic performances. It was a blast getting to celebrate today and appreciate our country with our community at local nursing homes!
